The compulsory school day will start at 8.30am and end at 3pm (32.5 hours per week), however, we would expect it to be commonplace that students would be remaining at the academy, through choice, to participate in the enrichment ++ programme. In addition, students in all year groups may be asked to join ‘catch up’ or ‘intervention’ sessions to assist with their ongoing studies.
Absence procedure
Where a student is absent from school: you must report their absence via the JSA app, on the first day of absence, before 8.00am, indicating the reason for absence.
An update will be required on each day the student is absent.
If the absence is pre-arranged i.e. medical appointments, funerals, religious festivals, please complete an Exceptional Circumstances Request Form. Any absence which is not explained satisfactorily is ‘unauthorised’ and will be marked accordingly.
If a student is absent without the knowledge of the parent/carer or leaves the academy at any time during the school day without permission, they are truanting. This will be sanctioned in line with the academy’s Positive Discipline Policy. In the event of a prolonged absence, medical evidence will be required.
Holidays in term time
Any disruption to a student’s education is detrimental to their success, especially during examination periods. This is relevant from Year 7 through to Year 11, when missed assessments and controlled assessment can result in lower grades.
Unauthorised absence can lead to a Fixed Penalty Notice (£80 per parent, per child) being issued.
